2020 Pool Season Updates
May 6, 2020
Greetings Waterford Neighbors,
We, like many of you, are following the daily announcements from local officials to determine how we will be impacted. One of those areas is the regulations that will determine how we are able to enjoy our neighborhood pool this year. The Kentucky Department of Health has mandated our local health department not issue any pool permits at this time and the Waterford swimming pool can not operate without a permit from the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department. The HOA Board and the property manager will continue to monitor the situation, so that if something changes we can make the necessary changes to follow the revised guidelines. We are committed to opening the pool, if we can obtain the proper permitting.
If we are unable to open for the summer, adjustments to our budget plan for next year will be made in November, once we know more about the full impact that the COVID19 situation will have on HOA finances.

Welcome Summer! As the current situation continues to develop, we are following the guidelines and happy to update everyone following the discussion at the June board meeting last night. The HOA Board voted to move forward with plans to open the pool as a lap pool as allowed under the current aquatic center guidelines with a goal of opening as a recreation pool when guidelines are released.
We will be working with the pool management company and the health department to ready the pool, obtain a permit to operate and put all of the necessary guidelines in place to ensure that we are able to stay safe while providing a location for families to enjoy a much-needed summer activity. The ball is already rolling this morning, and we look forward to sharing more details with you soon. There are still many unknowns since the guidelines for the recreational pool opening dates that the Governor announced have not been released. We ask that you please be patient as we work to bring you all of the details regarding the dates we will open for lap and recreational use, sign up process and all guidelines for pool use. Stay tuned the fun will begin soon!
Anyone with questions about the pool opening please contact the HOA board using the contact link.

We are hoping to be able to open the Waterford pool on July 6. We still have a lot to figure out and put into place, but we need to start with updating the list of pool members for the 2020 season so that we can create an email group to keep everyone up to date and connected. We also need to collect an additional form to accompany each pool membership agreement, the Waterford COVID-19 Acknowledgement of Risks. Please see the pool membership page for directions and access to the forms. Pool memberships are available free of charge for all residents of Waterford that are up to date on their HOA dues. Every person entering the pool deck in the summer of 2020 will need to have a pool membership.

As you are aware from our previous communications, the HOA Board began the process of preparing the pool to open for the neighborhood on June 12, 2020, with the target opening date of July 6. The HOA Board moved on the pool opening when we received guidance from the State on how we would need to operate the pool for recreational use. Preparing our pool is normally a month long process, and we’ve cut that time down to 3 weeks. Unfortunately, we’ve uncovered a few issues:
- We’re trying to garner agreement with our pool management company, PPM, for their responsibility of the additional cleaning required for operating the pool per the COVID-19 State guidelines. This is taking much longer than expected, and we are reviewing proposals for other options for the additional cleaning.
- As usual, during our pool opening process, we’ve found some maintenance issues, and are addressing them. We have replaced a vacuum pump, and are addressing an issue with the electrical system.
We are targeting July 6 as the opening date, but this may be delayed due to the issues addressed above. As promised early on in this process, we will be keeping you all updated regularly since it is developing hourly. We will confirm the opening to you in later communications.
We ask that you submit your Pool membership agreement and the COVID Acknowledgement form if you haven’t already done so. We need both sets of documentation to allow you to safely use the pool, and we are using contact information from these forms to communicate pool opening information. These forms are found linked here on our Waterford HOA website.
We appreciate your patience during this challenging time. Your volunteer HOA Board members are communicating daily to get the pool opened safely for you.
